The short version
- Public home support goes through a Fraser Health assessment. Services and hours depend on assessed need.
- Private home care is arranged and paid for directly with a provider. You and the provider decide on the schedule and tasks.
How to request a public assessment
Call the Fraser Health Access Line at 1-855-412-2121, open every day from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., or ask your health care provider about a referral. You can also request a telephone appointment online through Fraser Health.
When private care makes sense
- You're waiting for an assessment or services to start
- You need help with companionship, outings or housekeeping
- You need specific times or more hours
- You want help during travel or at a family event
Questions to ask Fraser Health
- What services do we qualify for, and when could they start?
- What will it cost us?
- What should we do if needs change?
- How should we tell you if we've arranged private care?
How we can work together
We can fit private visits around public home support and follow routines your care team has set. If you're not sure where to begin, call the Access Line and call us. There's no conflict in doing both.
