What the benefit covers
ICBC's guide describes support for people who were unpaid caregivers before a crash, for a child under 16 or for a person regularly unable to hold a job for any reason:
- Full-time caregivers may receive a weekly benefit intended to pay for a replacement caregiver.
- Part-time caregivers may be reimbursed for care expenses up to a weekly limit, in certain situations.
All care expense reimbursement needs ICBC's pre-approval. Current amounts are in ICBC's guide.
How we can help
We can step in to support an adult family member who relied on you, such as a parent or spouse living with a disability or memory loss. That can include personal care, meals, companionship, supervision and rides. If you're also injured, we can often set up one care plan for the household.
What to do next
- Tell your ICBC specialist you were a caregiver before the crash and ask about this benefit.
- Call us to talk through what your family member needs.
- Get approval or confirm the benefit before expenses start.
Right Move Home Care is an independent private business and isn't part of ICBC. ICBC decides what's covered on each claim. We can't promise coverage, so confirm with your ICBC support and recovery specialist before services start.
Common questions
Do you provide childcare?
Our services are for adults. If you need childcare under this benefit, ask your specialist about licensed options.
Can both of us get help from the same caregiver?
Often, yes. We'll work out a schedule that fits both people's needs and what's been approved.
